Word of the Day

CARILLON - (pronounced car·il·lon) -noun:
A set of fixed chromatically tuned bells sounded by hammers controlled from a keyboard
(from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/carillon)

Please come visit the Utah State Capitol and hear our Carillon at the top of the Capitol building play patriotic music related to Utah or it's history! It rings at 8am, 10am, noon, 3pm, and 5pm. Enjoy!

  1. As a secular minded free thinker in the neighborhood of the state capitol, I find it very offensive to have to hear about the glory of the coming of your imaginary lord every morning! It is just another reminder of how pervasive the mix of church and state is here in Utah. Please, relieve me of the sickening feeling I get every morning when this plays... It needs to stop! It is not patriotic, it is religious and has no place coming from a government building.

  3. I'm also a free-thinker and love the sound of the bells. In 2014, at least, I've yet to hear any religiously themed tunes.
