Capitol Art Exhibit

Please visit the Capitol's 4th floor featuring the beautiful exhibition,
20 Works from the State Fine Art Collection
On view through August 5
On the closing day of the 3rd Utah Legislature on March 9, 1899, Senate Bill 89 sponsored by Representative Alice Merrill Horne was passed to create the Utah Art Institute (now known as the Utah Division of Arts and Museums) as the first state-sponsored arts organization in the United States.

The twenty artworks displayed here on the 4th floor of the Utah State Capitol are selected works from the State Fine Art Collection initiated by Representative Alice Merrill Horne’s vision.  These artworks, spanning 123 years of Utah artists and their work, honor the directive to develop and preserve the arts and artists in Utah.
